DESCRIPTION: Benedict & Burnham Mfg. Co., Waterbury, Conn., long wind, 18 size, stem wind skeletonized brass movement, with duplex escapement and brass balance, in a nickel plated brass, snap back and bezel open face case, the back with stamped design in imitation of engine turning and engraving, the mainspring cover stamped with maker and patent information, Roman numeral paper dial, and blued steel hands, c1880
CONDITION: CASE: Dings and pin pricks; Scratches on outer surface of case; Plating loss; Plastic crystal; Minor scratches on crystal; Bow worn to brass. DIAL: Toning, a few marks, small area at edge near 9:00 with slight delamination and small tear. HANDS: Tip of hour hand broken. MOVEMENT PLATES: Plates and wheels with tarnish and spotting; Mainspring cover with gouge and hole at top edge, minor dings, scratches and wrinkles. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks) - A note from the consignor states that the mainspring is too strong, and the watch should not be wound beyond 20 turns.
